About The Role

About Insify

The legal infrastructure behind insurance is as broken as the products themselves. Regulations written for a different era, compliance frameworks that slow companies down instead of protecting them, and legal teams that show up at the end to say no instead of at the beginning to say here's how.

We're doing it differently.

Insify is a high-growth scale-up backed by €43M in total funding from world-class investors like Accel, Munich Re Ventures, and Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg. In five years, we've expanded from the Netherlands into France and Germany, and we're just getting started. Our mission: become the European leader in AI-powered SME insurance.

We aren't just building a company; we're leading a revolution. Our culture is intense, high-stakes, and mission-driven. We hire smart, ambitious "owners" who possess a relentless drive to win. This is an environment for those who thrive on challenges, value intellectual honesty, and share our mindset of becoming a global category leader.

Our founding team consists of seasoned entrepreneurs who have previously built iconic businesses like HelloFresh, Bloomon, and SumUp. We bring that same bias for speed, scale, and high standards to one of the most structurally broken experiences in financial services. Together, we combine that deep fintech and e-commerce expertise with cutting-edge AI to stay ahead of the curve.

About the role

We're looking for a Legal Counsel who wants to be a builder, not a gatekeeper.

This is not a role where you sit at the end of the process and review contracts. You'll be embedded in the business — working alongside Product, Growth, and Commercial from the start — shaping how Insify launches new products, enters new markets, and scales its legal and compliance infrastructure across Europe. You'll own GDPR, navigate the regulatory complexity of a multi-jurisdiction insurtech, and be the person who turns legal risk into a competitive advantage rather than a reason to slow down.

As we expand into new European markets, you'll help lay the legal groundwork that makes each new country faster to enter than the last. The work is varied, the stakes are real, and the impact is immediate.

What you’ll be doing

  • Be the trusted legal voice across the business, advising on Dutch and EU commercial and regulatory law, building our legal posture from the ground up, and making sure the business moves fast without moving blind
  • Stay ahead of legal and regulatory developments across the Netherlands, France, and the markets we're entering next, and turn complex regulatory shifts into clear, strategic guidance the business can act on
  • Own our international expansion from a legal perspective, helping navigate the groundwork that makes each new European market faster and smarter to enter than the last
  • Partner with Product, Growth, and Commercial to launch new offerings, campaigns, and partnerships, bringing legal thinking into the room early, not as a final hurdle
  • Build and scale our compliance infrastructure so it grows with us: practical, embedded, and designed for a company that's moving fast across multiple jurisdictions
  • Own GDPR and our broader privacy framework, working cross-functionally to keep policies fit for purpose and genuinely embedded in how we build, not just filed away in a folder

This role is a strong fit if you

You are a lawyer who’s done legal advice at a law firm and now wants to actually build something. You've seen how legal work gets done from the outside and you're ready to own it from the inside. Specifically, this role is for you if you want to:

  • Move from advising businesses to being part of one, with real skin in the game and decisions that stick
  • Join a disruptor taking on one of the most structurally broken industries in Europe
  • Be at the forefront of AI adoption in a regulated industry, where the legal questions are genuinely new and genuinely interesting
  • Shape multi-country expansion from the ground floor, not just reviewing contracts, but helping determine how we enter new markets
  • Work in a team that moves fast and expects legal to keep up, not slow things down

You'll also need

  • A strong legal background in Dutch law , gained through education, in-house, or law firm experience; EU law is a significant advantage
  • 3+ years of market experience working in the Netherlands
  • Relevant industry exposure in financial services, insurance, or tech, though we're open to sharp generalists who learn fast
  • Fluency in Dutch and English, any other European language is a plus!
  • The ability to communicate clearly and confidently with senior stakeholders– with a point of view, not just a list of options
  • Comfort with ambiguity, competing priorities, and driving multiple complex initiatives without losing the thread

This role is not for you if

  • You prefer reviewing work at the end of the process rather than shaping it from the start
  • You need stable priorities and fully defined scope to perform well
  • You're looking for a role where the legal team is a separate function the business works around
  • You expect a long runway before taking real ownership
