About The Role
Summary
The Benefits Specialist supports the City’s health, wellbeing, and retirement programs through employee and retiree-facing support, plan administration, compliance coordination, and vendor management. This role ensures employees have a clear and positive experience navigating their benefits.
Pay Range : $ 51,563.20 - 65,665.60 (Depending on qualifications and experience)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned .
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee and retiree related questions as it pertains to health, wellbeing, and retirement benefits.
- Guide employees through eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, and general benefits navigation.
- Partner with carriers and vendors to resolve coverage issues and escalated employee concerns.
- Support annual open enrollment, including communications, presentations, scheduling, employee assistance, and documentation.
- Support the creation and presentation of and distribute benefits communications such as FAQs, reminders, newsletters, and informational materials.
- Partner with team members to support enrollment life cycle including eligibility reviews, dependent verification, enrollment accuracy checks and more.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D
- 2-3 years of related experience Intermediate experience with MS Office
- Ability to comfortably lead employee presentations and meetings
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience
- 3+ years of direct experience in benefits administration, human resources, or customer support preferred
- Advanced level experience in MS Office
- Direct experience developing and/or leading group presentations, meetings or events- both instructor-led and virtual
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Intermediate knowledge of business practices and procedures
- Consistent attention to detail and ability to proactively seek opportunities for process improvements
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy
- Ability to present information in an organized, logical manner and ensure execution as expected for all core functions
- Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills
- Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to employees’ personal health information
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license
