About The Role

The Daily Wire is seeking an experienced Weekend News Editor to lead our newsroom's editorial coverage during weekends. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you'll oversee breaking news and planned coverage, manage and mentor reporters, prioritize stories, and ensure every piece is timely, accurate, and aligned with The Daily Wire's editorial standards and mission. As the primary editorial decision-maker during weekend coverage, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the speed, quality, and consistency our audience expects while guiding coverage of the day's most important stories.

Responsibilities

  • Lead The Daily Wire's weekend newsroom, setting editorial priorities and directing coverage of breaking news and major developing stories.
  • Make real-time editorial decisions, determining story placement, urgency, and resource allocation to ensure timely, impactful reporting.
  • Oversee the reporting, editing, and publication of news content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, speed, and adherence to editorial standards.
  • Manage and mentor weekend reporters by assigning stories, providing editorial guidance, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage, adapting quickly to evolving events and maintaining high-quality journalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Partner with homepage, audience, production, and editorial teams to maximize the reach and impact of weekend coverage.
  • Exercise sound editorial judgment while collaborating with senior leadership and legal counsel, as needed, to ensure responsible, ethical, and legally compliant reporting.
  • Protect confidential information and journalistic sources while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and information security.

Requirements & Experience

  • Background in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or related field preferred.
  • Strong editorial judgment in news journalism
  • Exceptional editing and fact-checking skills
  • Ability to lead newsroom coverage with limited resources
  • Deep understanding of news cycles, politics, and current events
  • Ability to make sound decisions under deadline pressure
