Estimator

Fermi Inc · Remote, Texas, United States

Civil Engineering / ConstructionSenior LevelRemoteExternal listingcontractabout 8 hours ago

About The Role

The Estimator develops accurate, well-documented cost estimates across Fermi America’s capital portfolio, with a focus on oil & gas, power generation, and data center projects. The role prepares conceptual through definitive estimates, supports bid evaluation and contract negotiation, and partners with project controls to convert estimates into control budgets. The Estimator brings market awareness across these sectors — equipment, labor, and construction pricing — and provides the cost basis that underpins investment decisions and project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and definitive (Class 5 through Class 1) cost estimates for oil & gas, power, and data center projects per AACE estimate classification.
  • Develop quantity take-offs and price direct/indirect costs for civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and controls scopes.
  • Estimate major equipment (turbines, generators, transformers, switchgear, compression, cooling, and data center MEP) using vendor quotes, historical data, and parametric models.
  • Build and maintain labor productivity, craft rates, and construction pricing benchmarks specific to each sector and region.
  • Prepare contingency and escalation analysis; quantify estimate accuracy ranges and key assumptions/exclusions.
  • Support bid packages, contractor/vendor proposal evaluation, bid leveling, and contract negotiation.
  • Reconcile estimates to prior revisions and to project controls budgets; perform estimate-to-estimate and estimate-vs-actual benchmarking to improve future accuracy.
  • Maintain a cost database and lessons-learned library; capture actual cost feedback from completed work.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, project controls, and finance to align estimates with scope, schedule, and execution strategy.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of estimating experience on capital projects in oil & gas, power generation, and/or data centers.
  • Strong quantity take-off skills and command of direct/indirect cost buildup, indirects, escalation, and contingency.
  • Familiarity with AACE estimate classes and cost estimating best practices.
  • Proficiency with estimating tools and advanced Excel; ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
  • Experience estimating combined-cycle power, gas processing/midstream, and hyperscale data center facilities.
  • Familiarity with cost-management systems (Oracle Unifier).
