Job Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for the accurate management, tracking, movement, staging, and distribution of raw materials, components, and finished parts throughout the shop. This position supports production operations by ensuring materials are available when needed, maintaining inventory accuracy, processing material transactions in SAP, and coordinating with production personnel, planners, and coordinators. The Material Handler also transports materials, tools, and equipment between the facility and outside vendors using company vehicles, including trucks and trailers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Release and issue materials to production jobs in accordance with work orders and manufacturing schedules.
  • Track and maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, components, consumables, and finished parts.
  • Process inventory transactions, material movements, and work order activities using SAP.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Production Coordinators, Planners, Supervisors, and other departments regarding material requirements and job status.
  • Communicate effectively through Outlook email, telephone, and other communication platforms to support shop activities.
  • Move, organize, stage, and deliver materials to designated workstations to ensure efficient workflow and uninterrupted production.
  • Verify quantities, part numbers, and material specifications before issuing materials to jobs.
  • Maintain accurate records of material receipts, transfers, returns, and inventory adjustments.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Receive and inspect incoming materials and verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, and other material handling equipment as required.
  • Operate company trucks and trailers to transport parts, tools, and materials between company facilities and external vendors.
  • Pick up and deliver materials, tooling, and supplies from suppliers and outside service providers as needed.
  • Ensure materials are properly identified, labeled, stored, and protected from damage.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe material storage and staging areas.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality requirements, and operating procedures.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory control, material flow, and production support.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in material handling, inventory control, warehouse operations, or manufacturing support environments.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and general computer applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, inventory records, and production documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate or become certified on forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Experience operating trucks and trailers for material transportation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, trucks, trailers, and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions when making vendor deliveries and pickups.
