About The Role
The Welder is an experienced MIG and flux-core structural welder responsible for laying out, fitting, aligning, welding, and fabricating large, heavy, and complex structural assemblies, components, and weldments. This position works to close tolerances and exact specifications and requires broad knowledge of fitting, fabricating, and welding procedures.
The Welder works from drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, and specifications to plan and complete assemblies. Work is performed with minimal supervision and must meet established quality standards, customer requirements, and specifications.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures.
- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
- Align components using calipers, rulers, and clamp pieces.
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
- Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Follow safety guidelines as set by the company.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a welder in a professional or school environment.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.).
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves, etc.).
- Deftness and attention to detail.
- Regular attendance and active participation with the team is required.
- Professional Certification (e.g., an AWS welding certificate) or school credits in welding will be a plus.

- Work is primarily performed in a manufacturing and fabrication environment.
- Regular exposure to welding fumes, sparks, dust, noise, moving mechanical equipment, and varying temperatures.
- Work may be performed near forklifts, overhead cranes, power tools, welding equipment, and large or heavy materials.
- Required personal protective equipment must be worn in accordance with Company policy and applicable safety requirements.
- The position may require overtime or schedule adjustments based on production needs.

- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequently use hands and arms to handle materials, operate welding equipment, and use hand and power tools.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, climb, and reach.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and use appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment for heavier items.
- Safely maneuver around large weldments, equipment, and congested production areas.
- Maintain sufficient visual acuity to read drawings, take measurements, inspect welds, identify defects, and verify compliance with specifications.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
- Wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
Mental Demands
- Read, interpret, and apply detailed drawings, blueprints, bills of materials, and welding specifications.
- Maintain attention to detail and accuracy while performing repetitive and complex welding and fabrication work.
- Plan and sequence work to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
- Identify fit-up, alignment, shrinkage, and distortion issues and make appropriate corrections.
- Exercise sound judgment when selecting materials, determining bracing requirements, and operating equipment.
- Maintain concentration while working around welding equipment, moving machinery, overhead loads, and other workplace hazards.
- Adapt to changing priorities, production needs, and work assignments.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with other production employees and departments.
