About The Role

The Agricultural Advisor is responsible for providing hands-on technical support to producers and producer organizations (POs) and for the operational implementation of the RIZ PLUS project's field activities in his/her intervention area. The Agricultural Advisor reports hierarchically to the Project Head of Mission and works in close collaboration with the project's technical and coordination teams.

DUTIES

  • Provide hands-on technical support to producers and producer organizations (POs) in their intervention area, on behalf of the project;
  • Disseminate and promote among producers the good agricultural practices (GAP) promoted by the project, particularly in rice growing;
  • Organize and lead demonstration sessions, farmer field schools and practical training for producers targeted by the project;
  • Provide technical and organizational support to POs in their structuring and functioning, in line with the project's intervention strategy;
  • Ensure capacity building of producers on farming techniques, post-harvest management and marketing;
  • Identify producers' training and support needs and inform the project coordination to adjust action plans;
  • Support linking supported producers with input suppliers and markets/outlets identified by the project;
  • Ensure technical monitoring of demonstration plots and farms supported under the project;
  • Collect, consolidate and transmit to the project the technical monitoring data and performance indicators of the producers supported;
  • Identify and report to the team leader any technical and organizational constraints encountered in the field;
  • Draft and submit periodic technical reports (weekly, monthly) on activities carried out and results obtained for the project;
  • Participate in technical coordination meetings as well as supervision and monitoring & evaluation missions organized by the project;
  • Ensure, within their area of intervention, compliance with environmental and social safeguard principles as well as inclusion (gender, youth) promoted by the project;
  • Represent the project to producers, POs and local authorities in their intervention area.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION

Bachelor's degree level (Bac+3) in agronomy or any other equivalent field.

COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate must

  • At least three (03) relevant experiences in providing technical support to agricultural producers or agricultural extension.
  • · Experience in similar rural development projects is an asset.
  • Good mastery of agricultural technical itineraries, particularly in rice cultivation.
  • Good ability to write technical reports.
  • Good command of computer tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of methods of animation and training of producers (field schools, demonstrations) is an asset.
  • Good command of French and Malagasy.
  • Ability to work independently, in a multidisciplinary team and under pressure, with availability for frequent travel to rural areas.
  • Good sense of training, listening, organization and communication
