Job Summary

The Data Center Technician is responsible for deploying, installing, configuring, and supporting enterprise data center infrastructure. This role involves installing and positioning server racks, integrating server and network hardware, connecting power, managing cabling, performing hardware replacements, and assisting with system configuration during large-scale deployment projects.

This is a hands-on position requiring strong mechanical aptitude, technical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced data center environments. The ideal candidate enjoys working with hardware, is comfortable traveling extensively, and takes pride in delivering high-quality installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, place, level, and secure server racks and cabinets according to deployment specifications and floor plans.
  • Connect rack power whips to rack and/or facility power following established procedures.
  • Rack, stack, cable, and configure servers, switches, and other data center infrastructure.
  • Perform hardware installation, upgrades, and break/fix activities, including replacing servers, switches, power supplies, drives, and other components.
  • Install, route, label, and manage copper and fiber cabling while maintaining clean cable management standards.
  • Support server and network hardware configuration and post-installation validation.
  • Assist with network connectivity and basic troubleshooting during deployments.
  • Read and follow deployment documentation, rack elevations, and installation instructions.
  • Stage, inventory, and prepare equipment for deployment projects.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and lifts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and customer site safety requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–4 years of IT, data center, infrastructure deployment, or related technical experience.
  • Experience placing, setting, leveling, and securing server racks.
  • Experience connecting rack power to rack and/or facility power.
  • Experience with rack and stack deployments in enterprise data center environments.
  • Experience with networking fundamentals and hardware connectivity.
  • Experience configuring server and network hardware.
  • Experience replacing hardware components, including servers, switches, power supplies, drives, and related infrastructure.
  • Strong cable management and structured cabling experience.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding work throughout the day.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 60–70% .

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting large-scale enterprise data center deployments.
  • Experience with Dell PowerEdge XE9680 and XE9780 GPU servers .
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting Dell PowerEdge servers or similar enterprise server platforms.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards, server validation, and hardware testing.
  • Experience working in mission-critical or hyperscale data center environments.
  • Certification or experience operating electric pallet jacks or similar material handling equipment is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Enterprise data centers, warehouse facilities, and other deployment environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and use of hand and power tools.
  • Work may be performed in hot and cold aisles, raised-floor environments, and other controlled data center spaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as applicable.
