About The Role

GENERAL PURPOSE

To provide a benefit to students who have an interest in becoming a Parks and Recreation professional, Ivins City will offer a student up to 535 hours to fulfill the requirements of their internship program. This program will benefit the students as well as the Parks and Recreation Department.

Provide supervision, leadership, and oversight at Ivins City Recreation leagues, games, programs, and events. Ensure fair play, safety, and positive experiences for participants. Responsible for monitoring game activities, supporting officials, maintaining facility standards, and acting as a liaison for coaches. To promote sportsmanship, fair play, and full participation across all activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and the general supervision of Parks & Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

May provide close general supervision to Sports Officials and Volunteer Coaches; does not conduct performance reviews and does not have authority to hire or discipline.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.   • Coordinate various sports programs and special events
  • Completes daily reports and paperwork.
  • Hands materials out to participants, coaches, parents, instructors, and officials of each activity.
  • Organizes and sets up facilities when necessary for practices, games, or activities.
  • Supervises and assures that schedules are followed accurately during each activity.
  • Ensures guidelines, rules, and sportsmanship are maintained.
  • Assesses conditions on playing field or activity site and ensures safety and proper set up.
  • Addresses concerns and questions of the coaches, players, or parents, and reports them to the Recreation Program Coordinator.
  • Reports any field/facility problems to the Recreation Program Coordinator.
  • Ensures safety of staff, participants, and citizens.
  • Hands out awards.
  • Ensures activity site is clean and secure after each activity.
  • Oversee games ensuring they start on-time at the beginning, and after each time-out and
  • Keeps track of supplies and
  • May be required to fill in as sports official.
  • Consistently evaluate sports officials and offer basic on-site trainings
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and a S. Citizen.
  • Must be enrolled in an Internship class for Sports Management, Parks and Recreation, or a similar degree program.

Education and Experience

  • Six months prior experience in related activities is helpful but not required.

Knowledge

  • English – Knowledge of the English language, including proper structure, spelling, grammar, and
  • Sport - Basic knowledge of the sport or activity involved
